In case you missed it, Elon Musk has some unfinished business with PayPal.

I have more than a passing interest in this. I worked for Peter Thiel when he was CEO of PayPal, before and after the IPO, until we both left after the merger with eBay.

We were an insurgency out to change the world, and we did.

We asked people to trust a bunch of kids in Silicon Valley — our average age was 23 — with their money. And they did. In the company’s first two and a half years, in fact, around 25 million of them did.

In the process, we enabled the creation of over two million small businesses, small firms that used us instead of a then-stupidly expensive credit card merchant account. Despite that, our fraud rate was just one-third of Visa’s and MasterCard’s.

But we had bigger ambitions than that, ambitions that weren’t fully achieved before the sale.

Coming off the Mexican and Argentine currency devaluations, Peter was particularly interested in giving normal people around the world a free or near-free offshore bank account to protect themselves from their own governments. Crypto has partially achieved that now; stablecoins will be even bigger. But none of that existed yet.

Elon had his own take on things.

According to the latest from the Census Bureau, the poverty rate just hit its lowest level in U.S. history.

Read that again.

That’s not all. America just also hit its highest real median household income in history.

The Atlanta Fed estimates that the economy is growing at an incredible 5 percent annual rate. That’s after years of Democrats promising us that 1.6 percent was “the new normal.” It’s also after barely more than a year and a half of Trump back in office.

It gets even better.

Child poverty fell to just 13.4 percent, the lowest official rate ever recorded. Hispanic poverty fell to a record low 13.9 percent. Real weekly earnings for blue-collar manufacturing workers are up 4.1 percent since January 2025; construction workers’ earnings are up an even higher 5 percent.

It’s kind of a miracle. And it’s gathering steam.

Yet to hear the Enemedia — and some conservatives — talk, the exact opposite is true. To them it’s all “muh gas prices.” Which is funny since the average gas price under Joe Biden was higher than the average during Trump’s second term, even with the war.

Something is seriously amiss.

The deal is everything we could ask for, and infinitely more than the Enemedia told you was possible.

But the bigger news is the agreement’s implications for the rest of the world.

With the signing of the tripartite deal between the United States, Greenland, and Denmark, Donald Trump has achieved yet another masterstroke — like the NATO commitment to increase defense spending more than two-and-a-half times, like the EU trade deal, like booting China out of Panama — that the Enemedia unanimously told you was not merely impossible, but laughable.

Lesson: don’t listen to the Enemedia. It’s not just that they’re biased. They’re also almost always wrong.

To quote Greenland Premier Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the “world has changed a great deal since 1951,” referring to the original security agreement. The people of Greenland “recognize the long-term security threats that you, Mr. President, have rightly spoken about.”

“This agreement should put to rest any doubt today and in the future about where Greenland’s loyalty lies,” Nielsen said.

Canada is furious about “Lake America.”

President Trump’s executive order renaming Lake Ontario has been received north of the border as one more intolerable act of American arrogance: an insult to Canadian sovereignty, an affront to Canadian dignity, perhaps even proof that the United States has become a threat.

Trump is trolling, of course. But as always, the trolling isn’t random.

Negotiation, like poker, is a contest in emotional control: the player who keeps his head can manipulate the one who loses his. Trump is deliberately provoking Canada because anger clouds judgment, wounded pride invites mistakes, and an emotional opponent is easier to maneuver.

Canada keeps responding with outrage and claims of betrayal. Trump keeps provoking it because the provocation keeps working.
